Physicians

Our board certified or board eligible doctors are ophthalmologists that have a wide range of expertise, including glaucoma, cataracts, pediatrics, diabetic eye care, lasers, cornea and retina. We not only provide routine eye exams, eyeglasses and contacts, but also treat medical problems and perform surgery.

Jake P. Bostrom, M.D.

Joining Southern Eye Associates in August 2009, Dr. Bostrom earned his undergraduate degree from Furman University and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.  He served his transitional internship at the University of Oklahoma  Health Science Center and recently completed his ophthalmology residency at the Dean McGee Eye Institute.  He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, AOA Medical Honor Society, and the Christian Ophthalmology Society.  Dr. Bostrom spent his early childhood as a missionary kid in Brazil.  He has a passion for the Lord's work both here and abroad.  He is married to his college sweetheart, Cara, and they have two wonderful and spirited children, Cole and Claire.  He enjoys hiking, Furman Athletics, and wrestling with his kid.

Kurt F. Heitman, M.D.

Dr. Heitman earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.  He served his internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of  Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.  Dr. Heitman served as a flight surgeon and an ophthalmologist in the U.S. Air Force from 1987 to 1991, and began private practice in Greenville in 1991.  He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Heitman has lectured at national and international ophthalmology meetings and is past president of the South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology.  He resides in Greenville with his wife Robin and his two sons.  Dr. Heitman’s greatest joy is his relationship with God and with his family.

E. Darrell Jervey, M.D.

Dr. Jervey earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine.  He served a surgical internship and ophthalmology residency at Duke Hospital and later completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.  Dr. Jervey is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Eye Surgeons, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He is a third generation ophthalmologist serving in the Greenville community, beginning his private practice in 1968.  Dr. Jervey has previously served as president of the Greenville County Medical Society and the South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology.  He lives in Greenville with his wife, Pat.  They have 4 children and 10 grandchildren.  Dr. Jervey enjoys hunting, fishing, sailing, and playing the keyboard and guitar.

Douglas W. Stokes, M.D.

Dr. Stokes earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston and his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.  He served his transitional internship at Greenville Memorial Hospital and his residency in ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University.  He then completed a fellowship in glaucoma at the University of Florida prior to joining Southern Eye Associates in 1993.  Dr. Stokes is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He is a native of South Carolina and is married with two children.  Dr. Stokes is past president of the Greenville County Medical Society.



Janette E. White, M.D.

Dr. White is originally from Canada, earning her medical degree from the University of  Western Ontario (UWO) in London, followed by a residency in family practice in Vancouver, BC, then a residency in ophthalmology at UWO, and finally a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.  She has been in the practice of pediatric ophthalmology since 1996, first on faculty at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, and then most recently at USC in Columbia.  She is certified (and recertified) by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  She is thrilled that God has brought her, her husband and 2 small children to Greenville, where they are pleased to serve the community, and are enjoying the outdoors.

Bradley B. Williams, M.D.

Dr. Williams earned his undergraduate degree from Wofford College, attended the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and then earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.  He served his internship and ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.  Dr. Williams is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He lives in Greenville with his wife and 4 children and been in private practice since 1987.  Dr. Williams enjoys doing part-time mission work with his family in Third World countries.  He is an avid outdoorsman.  Dr. Williams considers ophthalmology a ministry, and his greatest desire is to please the God he serves.  His greatest earthly joy is his family.
